We are moving on for small group instruction. For 6th grade, we will be piggy backing off what students have just learned, percents. For 7th grade, we will be working on proportions and scaled drawings. And for 8th grade, we will be going back to algebraic equations, starting with one-step. Here are the assigned IXL's that will complement small group instruction.
6th- S.1 Convert between percents, fractions, and decimals S.4 Percents of numbers and money amounts S.5 Percents of numbers: word problems 7th- J.2 Identify equivalent ratios J.3 Write an equivalent ratio J.4 Equivalent ratios: word problems 8th- W.1 Which x satisfies an equation? W.6 Solve one-step equations IXL's that were DUE on Friday, January 26th. Students worked on these IXL's for 2 weeks in small group and individually. If they have not yet finished them, they may do so at home. If they complete them at home, it is their responsibility to let me know they finished them. 6th Grade- H.2Multiply decimals H.4Divide decimals by whole numbers 8th Grade- Y.7Write a linear equation from a slope and y-intercept Y.8Write a linear equation from a graph Y.9Write a linear equation from a slope and a point

I hope you all had a lovely winter break and are ready to get back into the swing of things. Some new and not so new expectations for this quarter...
*All students are required to earn 1 hour a week of iReady instructional minutes. (This is not new) Any minutes over an hour is over doing it, please don't do that! You will burn out super quickly. *iReady instruction will count for a grade. I am holding you accountable for the grade that you earn in iReady instruction. Remember, you have 2 attempts at the lesson, so make sure you make them count. (This is new) *You will have IXL's that are due weekly/bi-weekly. (This is semi-new) I have assigned IXL's in the past, but somehow they aren't being fully completed. I am going to be holding you accountable to get them completed with understanding. From our last update until now--- 6th Grade- We ended with GCF, LCM, and word problems with GCF and LCM. This week, we did the final looks at GCF, LCM, and word problems. 7th Grade- We ended with converting fractions to decimals using long division and expressions. This week, we continued with expressions. 8th Grade- We ended with equations and finding slope. This week, we did the final looks at finding slope. We have our next benchmark assessment coming up this week. On Thursday, we have our Reading iReady benchmark and on Friday, we have our Math iReady benchmark. Remember, this is the progress monitoring we use to see that you are making growth. It is important that you do your absolute best to make sure that you are getting the proper instruction through iReady. Here were the IXL's that were due today, Friday, January 12th. You can continue to work on these if they would like to bring up your grade. Please let me know when you complete them, that way I can update your grade in Skyward. It is YOUR responsibility to do this since it's after the due date. 6th Grade- E.7Greatest common factor E.8Least common multiple E.9GCF and LCM: word problems 7th Grade- R.1Write variable expressions R.2Write variable expressions: word problems R.3Evaluate linear expressions 8th Grade- Y.1Find the slope of a graph Y.2Find the slope from two points Y.4Find the slope of a linear equation IXL's that are assigned next week 1/16-1/19: No due date yet. 6th Grade- H.2Multiply decimals H.4Divide decimals by whole numbers 7th Grade- R.4Evaluate multi-variable expressions R.10Multiply using the distributive property R.16Identify equivalent linear expressions 8th Grade- Y.7Write a linear equation from a slope and y-intercept Y.8Write a linear equation from a graph Y.9Write a linear equation from a slope and a point Students have been working hard! We have iReady up and ready and they have been working on individualized lessons they need, as well as working in small group. Here is what each grade level is working on in small group.
6th- We wrapped up coordinate plane with plotting points and reflecting across the x and y axis. Students are now working on reviewing GCF and LCM. 7th-We are wrapping up converting fractions to decimals with repeating or terminating decimals and moving into integer operations using PEMDAS. 8th- We wrapped up rules of exponents and are moving into solving algebraic equations. We are back into the groove of things and are ready to move on from operations of fractions. Please note that if your last assessment will count as your grade. You will have the opportunity to re-assess if you feel the need to.
We are now going into grade level content skills and assessing if we have retained knowledge from the first weeks of school. Here is what each grade level is working on. 6th- The Coordinate Plane: Skills *Tell what point is located at each ordered pair. *Write the ordered pair for each given point. *Plot points on the coordinate plane. Good news! We have 100% mastery of locating points at each ordered pair. Writing ordered pairs and plotting points is another story, we will continue with some of these skills. The next skill we will be looking at is reflecting coordinates across the x and y axis once the other 3 skills are mastered. 7th- We are working on fractions to decimals using long division. 8th- Rules of Exponents *Covering all---Application of zero power rule, powers to powers rule, negative exponent rule, product rule, and quotient rule. We will work on operations with these rules. This week, students are taking the iReady benchmark assessment. This will give us a better idea of what other skills students will need and we can address those needs in class. This week we will be wrapping up operations of fractions for those that have not yet mastered the skills. If you have mastered all operations, I will continue to pull you into small groups to go over your grade level content to make sure you have understanding. We will be continuing to focus on fact fluency as well, so continue to get your green light on Reflex daily.
6th- continue numbers lines and coordinate plane 7th- continue rational and irrational numbers 8th- continue exponents Hey all! Hope you all had a great weekend. This week we will be continuing operations of fractions for those that have not yet mastered the skills. If you have mastered all operations, I will be pulling you into small groups to go over your grade level content to make sure you have understanding. We will be continuing to focus on fact fluency as well, so continue to get your green light on Reflex daily.
6th- numbers lines and coordinate plane 7th- rational and irrational numbers 8th- exponents Our focus this week is operations with fractions and fact fluency through Reflex. Students are working their way individually mastering the different operations of fractions. If you have mastered each of the operations, your focus for the week will be earning your green light on Reflex.
Login information: reflexmath.com Username: galileobrecht Password: galileo1 I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Wow! What a great first two days of school. We have learned a lot about each other through some team building activities and classroom conversations. I just know we are going to have a great year together.
This week and next week we will be focusing on operations with fractions. Today, you took a pre-assessment on adding fractions. Some of you will continue that on Monday, be prepared! Some of you have shown mastery of adding fractions and will be moving on to other operations with fractions. If you have not mastered adding fractions, this is going to be where you start. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. I will update you again next Friday the 18th. |
