I hope you all had a lovely winter break and are ready to get back into the swing of things. Some new and not so new expectations for this quarter...
*All students are required to earn 1 hour a week of iReady instructional minutes. (This is not new) Any minutes over an hour is over doing it, please don't do that! You will burn out super quickly. *iReady instruction will count for a grade. I am holding you accountable for the grade that you earn in iReady instruction. Remember, you have 2 attempts at the lesson, so make sure you make them count. (This is new) We have our next benchmark assessment coming up this week. On Thursday, we have our Reading iReady benchmark and on Friday, we have our Math iReady benchmark. Remember, this is the progress monitoring we use to see that you are making growth. It is important that you do your absolute best to make sure that you are getting the proper instruction through iReady.

Students have been working hard! We have iReady up and ready and they have been working on individualized lessons they need, as well as working in small group. The past couple weeks we have focused on context clues and finding word meaning in text. We are also using this when doing word work/vocabulary when making sentences. Although our small group lessons are moving to key ideas and details, they should still use their knowledge of context clues when reading. Our focus for the next couple weeks will be identifying key ideas and details.
We are back into the groove of things and are ready to get to it! We have been working on word work this week. Word lists are based on the initial assessment they did in the beginning of the year from Words Their Way. Students are to sort their words based on their individualized spelling list. After they sort them, they are to define their words and use their words in a sentence. Once all is done, they will study their spelling pattern. Students are able to use note cards, study partner, etc in order to learn their words. Most students will be ready to take their spelling quiz this week. They will only take it when they feel they are personally ready.
Next week we will split up our days between word work and comprehension skills. I wanted students to get the routine of what it looks like when they do word work, so that way they know the expectation when it is a word work day. This week, students are taking the iReady benchmark assessment. This will give us a better idea of what other skills students will need and we can address those needs in class. We have finished our rounds of the Critical Reading Inventory. This week we will work in small groups to work on grade level benchmarks and work on comprehension skills/techniques.
-Front Row Word Study and Vocabulary -iReady Benchmark (Still don't have access, hopefully this will be resolved soon.) -Independently Read -Independently Write -Play catch up with other class assignments -Pull small groups to go over Front Row Grade Level Benchmark. We are wrapping up our Critical Reading Inventory assessments this week. If students have already been assessed, they will have options this week.
-Front Row Word Study -iReady Benchmark (hopefully) -Independently Read -Independently Write -Play catch up with other class assignments We are well on our way to forming reading groups! Students are continuing their assessment of their reading ability this week. While others are being assessed, students have the opportunity to work on a piece of writing, independently read, or catch up/get ahead on another class assignment. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
Wow! What a great first two days of school. We have learned a lot about each other through some team building activities and classroom conversations. I just know we are going to have a great year together.
This week and next week we will be working on pre-assessments of reading. Today, you took a pre-assessment on spelling. In the next coming weeks, you will know if you will be receiving spelling lists. We have also started a reading comprehension screener that will better gauge your reading level. It is important to know that these screeners take time, but ultimately they will benefit you. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. I will update you again next Friday the 18th. |
