We are back into the groove of things and are ready to get to it! We have been working on word work this week. Word lists are based on the initial assessment they did in the beginning of the year from Words Their Way. Students are to sort their words based on their individualized spelling list. After they sort them, they are to define their words and use their words in a sentence. Once all is done, they will study their spelling pattern. Students are able to use note cards, study partner, etc in order to learn their words. Most students will be ready to take their spelling quiz this week. They will only take it when they feel they are personally ready.
Next week we will split up our days between word work and comprehension skills. I wanted students to get the routine of what it looks like when they do word work, so that way they know the expectation when it is a word work day. This week, students are taking the iReady benchmark assessment. This will give us a better idea of what other skills students will need and we can address those needs in class.
